I FELL HARD

Really?  Is this really happening?  I say no, but my knee says yep!  Yeah.  Not even a week after finally getting the go ahead to start running, and yesterday making the decision that I was, in fact, going to give it a shot to run the 5K again even though I've only run on the treadmill 3 times,  it happens.

What happened?  Well.... I fell skating last night.  Went down on my left knee mostly, hit my right elbow and twisted my left foot a little (yep, same one).  It was THE LAST SONG OF THE NIGHT, and I was flying.  One of the kids came up on me at a pretty good clip and she was skating in the wrong direction!  I didn't even see her until she was right in front of me, too late for "defensive driving".  There was nothing I could do.  I tried to avoid her, and in the effort, saved her, but I went flying in the air and smack down on my knee.

By the time I got up off the floor (with the help of all my friends) and over to the bench to sit down, I rolled up my jeans, and the knee was already swelled up like a balloon.  Couldn't believe it.  I mean, really, within about 3 minutes after the fall?

So I can bend the knee.  I can put weight on it.  The foot/ankle is a little achey but seems okay.  I didn't hit my head.  I didn't land on my heads (need them to make a living).   I just have a really really swollen knee and it's very tender.  So I'm trying to look at it in a positive way, but honestly, I'm pretty mad this morning.   I had big plans to run today and tomorrow and go for a long run on Saturday or Sunday.  Now I don't know when I'll be running.  Depends on how well I heal.

Pretty stiff this morning and swollen, and starting to bruise, but maybe (not sure) maybe the swelling has gone down a little.

It's the chance I take every time I put those skates on my feet.  I know that, but really never had a fall like this.  I've seen them happen, just not to me.  A few weeks ago, I saw a pretty good crash and one of the guys I skate with turned to me and said, "That could be any one of us".  Yeah.  You're right.  But did it have to be my turn NOW?  Really?

Well, ice off now.  Should be interesting to figure out how I'm going to sit at my desk and work today while keeping the knee elevated.

  1. I am so sorry! That sucks! I hate it when things like that happen. It's so frustrating. Just keep telling yourself, it's just a minor set back and you will be running again in no time because you will!

  4. Thanks, all. I'm hoping that all this keeping it elevated iced will help the swelling go down in the next couple days.

    It's all good. :)
