So many blogs to read....so much I want to say in this post.....so tired! But couldn't resist popping in for a quick post. Tomorrow will be another crazy busy day... actually, have about 7 of them ahead of me, so I didn't want to put off the blog another day.
The Title today, "Come on - Just have some fun!" means so much in my life. Just having fun has been a big part of this journey, from dusting off the roller skates and getting back to the rink to making hula hoops and learning how to hoop again, to buying jump rope for myself instead of the kids, to running off and playing with the kids at family parties instead of sitting around with the adults, or getting out an old boardgame that I haven't played since childhood and just having a good time. Having some good old fun, enjoying yourself, laughing a bit is really so good for you!
Obviously, exercise doesn't have to be a bad word. Find something you love doing. Find something that makes you happy. Find something that is just fun! So much easier to burn a calorie when you're not thinking about burning a calorie!
Example, yesterday I was worn out, really tired. I'd already put in a really busy work week and no end in sight (which is good for the wallet). I was so tired I could have just crawled into bed, but hold it, it was Wednesday, my usual skating night. But how could I skate when I could hardly even sit up straight? Well, maybe if I just stop, take a hot bath for 10 minutes, relax while I eat my dinner, maybe I'll feel better. So that's what I did.
After dinner, I headed into my closets to find something to wear that would give me a pick-me-up. Well, after trying on about 3 shirts and 4 different pair of jeans (yep, just like a teenager), I finally settled on the perfect outfit for the evening, and was pleasantly surprised at how well my "skinny jeans" were starting to fit again. Not thrilled with the way my body is "shifting", but putting those jeans on and a shirt I haven't worn in a while with a cute white sleeveless vest jacket looked cute. Next, fix the hair, put a little color on my face.. yes starting to feel even better... and out the door I went. I was feeling better already, although still really tired.
Got to the rink, put my skates on....feel good. Now, set the heart rate monitor and get out on the floor...and I hardly stopped skating until session was over, and had SUCH A GREAT NIGHT! We skated, we danced, great music. We laughed. We carried on like a bunch of kids and before I knew it, the night was over, I had burned a load of calories, and felt great. No foot cramps, no leg cramps, and I had lots of energy. I felt more like myself than I have in months and months.
It was just what I needed, to get out and have fun. It was funny, because that little sleeveless vest I wore last night had a hood on it. A friend of ours came up, grabbed my hood and said what you going put in there. I looked at him, and without a thought, I said, "My troubles". So true too. I forgot all about all the stresses of the week, the day, and JUST HAD FUN!
Now, the key is to keep doing it. So yes, I have a crazy schedule of work for the next 7 days, but I'm making time in the schedule to enjoy a nice dinner with friends on Saturday night and maybe some board games too.
I even squeezed in a little time today for a 30 minute run. Would love to get another short one in tomorrow, but I realize I can't do it every day, and I have my long run scheduled for Sunday before work.
So what kind of fun are you planning for the weekend?
