Hey, good morning! Today is a very special day for me. Well, actually, after going back and reading my post from two years ago, I realized that yesterday was the actual day, but today is the two year anniversary of the day I celebrated....the very first time I ran.
I went back this morning and read that post and it just makes me smile. That morning, two years ago, I woke up and decided to take a chance, step out of the box, try something I had always wanted to do deep down inside but had absolutely no confidence. I decided to run. Now, two years later, I'm training for my first half-marathon. There have been setbacks along the way, including surgery on my foot, a cast, a walking boot. Even very recently, I've had issues that have caused me to give it a break, but I refuse to let anything get in my way permanently. I AM A RUNNER! I LOVE TO RUN! It is the greatest feeling to know that I am able to do it. Yes, it took many years, but honestly, running makes me feel so much stronger and able to deal with so many more obstacles. It's "me time", when all I have to do is keep moving, one foot in front of the other and breath. It's when I do a lot of my problem solving too.
So today I had planned on going on my first long run in two weeks. I was also scheduled to bump the run up from 7 to 8 miles today, but the weather out there....eh, not so nice. So I have a few choices. I could suck it up and go run in cold rainy weather. I could go to the gym and run 8 miles on the treadmill. I could wait until Sunday when I have nothing else scheduled, when the weather is supposed to be a little nicer... and dry ... and run the 8 miles then.
My choice, I'm going to put it off until Sunday. Sounds like a much better choice. Running 8 miles on the treadmill just does not appeal to me, nor does running it in the rain and cold. I might decide later on in the day to go to gym and run a short one on the treadmill though.
So anyway, what's my point? My point is please, please, please give yourself a chance, try something new, something different. Don't doubt yourself. Give yourself a chance. You'll be surprised at what you can do! And it doesn't need to be running. I do understand that not everyone has the desire to run. It could be so so many different things. How about biking? How about swimming? How about line dancing?
Boxing? Yeah, that's a thought that's in my head now. What a great stress reliever that would be! But what kind of boxing, regular fist punching boxing or kickboxing? Will take a little more thought but who knows. It's all possible.
