Yesterday morning (Sunday), I woke up when the alarm went off, hopped out of bed and nearly hit the floor.
Talk about dizzy! Crazy dizzy. And it wasn't just in the moment of waking. I walked out of the room heading toward the bathroom and banged into the wall, first one side, then the other. Crazy. And my legs were so stiff I couldn't bend them. It was like I was drugged.
I was worried. I felt seriously hung over, like I was in my 20's again, out partying all night... only that was obviously not what was going on.
I thought to myself, wow, no way I'm going to be able to get over this quick enough and be ready to run 11 miles. No way!. I'm going to have to call Aimee.
Now wait, don't be rush to cancel. So I poured a cup of coffee, and just sat in bed for a few minutes. Then I got up and made myself some breakfast, the usual peanut butter and banana sandwich, this time on two slices of bread instead of one. A glass of water, a glass of gatorade, another half cup of coffee. By then, I was feeling better. So I didn't cancel.
I threw some gummy bears in my pack and asked my hubby to meet me at the park (halfway point) with a Gatorade, and off we went on our run.
I felt good. In face, I felt GREAT! Got to the park, ate a few gummy bears, met hubby for a few sips of Gatorade and off we went to finish our run.
The result? One of my best long runs in quite a while. We ran 11.14 miles in 2 hours 26 seconds, average pace of 10:49! And I just looked at the splits. Great! I couldn't believe how good I felt running considering how lousy I felt when I woke up. Weird, but I'll take it.
I kept busy yesterday doing things around the house and yard, and boy, did I feel it in my legs last night. Good thing I sat all day today working on a system crash on my computer.
So I guess I proved to myself yesterday not to give up on myself so easily. Sometimes if I just push through the moment, I'll do just fine. Something to remember come marathon time if I hit "the wall", to push through it no matter what.
