Gotta LIVE! Be Healthy and LIVE!

Hi.  I've been kind of MIA since Sunday's post.  Guess I was just warn out from all the excitement of the marathon.  Such a GREAT time!

Yesterday I found out that a very, very, very close friend (girlfriends since grade school) lost her dad.  So sad.  So I've been kind of bummed and not into posting.  Today hubby and I spent the day with her, took her out to make sure she ate, then ran around doing errands helping with funeral arrangements and florist and stuff like that.

Made me realize EVEN MORE how important it is LIVE LIFE AND ENJOY IT.   Pretty obvious, but I think we all tend to get all wrapped up in the activities of our lives and sometimes forget the obvious.  For me, I need to CONTINUE to take care of myself.  It took a long time for me to get healthy and to learn how to have a happy AND healthy lifestyle.  I need to do whatever I can to stay that way.

Also, be happy, do what you like, what makes you happy, what makes you smile, surround yourself with the people who make you happy.  Spend time with the ones you love or if that's not possible, make sure you stay in touch.  Call them and just say hello, see what's going on in their life and let them know what's going on in your life.

I also think it's important that we talk to those senior members of our family and friends, ask them about their lives, their experiences.  It's amazing some of the stories they have to share if only we asked.

So what else has been going on with me?  I finally saw the doctor about my knee.  I had an x-ray today and should know in a few days but the doctor doesn't think the x-ray will show any problems.  He believes it is all soft tissue injury and will just take time to resolve.  In the meantime, if the x-ray is okay, I'm clear to run and skate (since I was already doing it) as long as it doesn't hurt to do it.  We'll see how that goes.  I get very achey but I don't know if that is FROM ACTIVITY or from LACK OF ACTIVITY.

I have been struggling this week with tracking, although I have been very mindful of what I am eating and trying not to lose my hold.  Instead of reaching for the 100-calorie snack bars, I've been reaching for the fresh fruit.  If I'm still not satisfied, I've grabbed a large glass of water.

Work has been slow lately and our bank account is suffering.  So with that in mind, we're trying to kind of eat from the freezer and try to reduce our grocery bill a little.  Last night, I took out a few containers of chili out of the freezer and we made a salad.  Turned into a very satisfying dinner.  Today, knowing that we would be running all day, I took out a big container of ham and bean soup, added some leftover veggies from dinner a few nights ago, and again, turned into a wonderful dinner on a chilly night, packed with veggies AND fiber!  The fridge has a lot more room in it these days.  We've gone through most of the fresh veggies, although I do have a  big bag of swiss chard to cook.  Maybe tomorrow's dinner will be swiss chard with garlic and white beans, and some grilled chicken breasts.

Well, I've rambled enough for one night.  Time to settle down in front of the roaring fire hubby lit for me and watch the Giants/Phillies game.  COME ON, PHILLIES!!!!!!

  1. My husband and son are HUGE Giants fans so we have been watching EVERY game. I'm more of a football fan but needless to say my house is very stressful over this. I understand the budget issues. With 3 kids, I am the lady in line with all the coupons. I even shop at 4 different stores(they are all near each other) to get the best deal on what I need. I have picky eaters so they give me a challenge. :) Fingers are crossed that results on your knee come back wonderful!

  2. Sorry about your friend's dad, Reen :(

Glad you got your knee checked out! Hope you get the green light to run and skate!

Yay for leftovers and freezer stashes :)

  3. GO PHILLIES!!! Sorry, Kathleen, but I'm a Jersey girl. Gotta cheer the Phillies on. :)

I shop with coupons as well, have a three-ring binder that I take along shopping, but having even been using them lately. It's been all about the basics only. But like I said, gives me a chance to clean out the freezer.

Thanks, Marisa. I'll let you know what I get the green light to run. Doctor says as long as the
x-ray is clear, I'll be good to go. It's really been achey the last few days thought.

Yeah, freezer stashes are great! And was a blessing last night when I got home. I was so tired!
