A Day Off for Workouts?

I never ever thought I'd be saying this, but could use some advice on how to talk myself into taking a day off from working out.  DID I REALLY SAY THAT?  Yep, I really did.

So here's the deal.  I had a great loss on the scale last week which I believe was as a result of sticking to program, drinking lots and lots of water, and working out.  That week, I had worked out four days, twice one of the days, for a total of five workouts in the week.

Now, this week, I was motivated to have a similar week and have another loss on the scale (hopefully).  I have worked my rear end off this week!  I have worked out Sunday (skating 4 hours), Monday (gym), Tuesday (gym), Wednesday (2.5 hours skating and gym), Thursday (gym).  I got up this morning, my left leg was aching pretty bad during the night, my foot/ankle are pretty sore, I had decided last night I wasn't going to the gym today, give my body a rest, BUT STILL, I FEEL THE NEED TO GO.  I just can't seem to let it rest this week.

I know, I know, I know, the body needs to recover, but with me it is also a way of dealing with stress, and yesterday I worked out pretty intensely BECAUSE I HAD TO work off a bunch of stress.

I'm meeting my BFF and two other girlfriends from high school for dinner tonight (talk about stress, hee hee) and because of that, I can't get away from the idea that I NEED to go workout in order to EARN the right to go out to dinner.  Even though I picked the restaurant, somewhere I know I can get a healthy meal, grilled chicken or fish and they have a beautiful fresh salad bar, I still feel like I WANT TO GO TO THE GYM.

So what is my problem?  Am I addicted or obsessed or both?  This is NOT THE NORMAL for me.  This has only been in the past two weeks, and I KNOW I need to slow down, especially since I go back to the doctor for results of MRI this coming week.  But how do I make myself realize that it's OKAY to take a day off?

  1. Don't let the guilt get to you, your body has to heal and in order to heal it needs rest.
