It's Official - The Run is Off

Well, good and bad report from the doctor.  The good report is that all the inflammation is down and he's very pleased with my progress after the "one month rest" of no skating, no running.  So I said okay, so why does it still hurt.  After I explained the current pain and problems I'm having, he's suggested that I have an EMG, thinks it might actually be an issue with a nerve, maybe sciatic and not post-surgical issues with the tendon.  Really?

So in the meantime, the good of it is he has cleared me to skate again, as long as I get a different skate, more like a shoe, something that doesn't put pressure directly on that area.  I'm working on that.  As for the running.....well, he said no, not a good idea.  I gave him one of my frown upside down pouty looks, and he said you know, I know you want to run the half-marathon, but put it off, let's wait and see if we can find out what's going on.  The constant pounding from running would just not be a good thing at this point.  If I feel I HAVE TO RUN, just go slow, short runs, take it easy, but no distance.  Total bummer.  Total total bummer.

I did get right back to the skating rink last night for a test, used my regular skates but only laced them halfway.  Not bad for the first half of the session, but the second half, I was feeling it.  So we're working on the skates issue and I'll focus on that for now, meanwhile, continue the workouts at the gym to keep the cardio up and maybe everything will all work out and I'll be running again by spring.

Now, what to do with all these zucchinis coming out of the garden!!!!  I have a few recipes but have just been on the go lately and not much time for SERIOUS cooking.  Hoping this weekend I'll have a chance to try some new ones, including "stuffed zucchini" and "summertime gratin" from ciaochowlinda@blogspot.com!
