Shirataki Noodles - Suggestions?

So I tried something new last week and not so sure about it yet.  Has anybody tried Shirataki Noodles?  I picked them up at the store last week, Tofu Shirataki Noodles.  They looked like pasta, in a little plastic bag stored in a liquid.  Hardly any calories.  Well, why not, I thought.   I didn't know what to do with them when I got home, but I was so hungry I needed a quick fix and there they were.  So I just heated them up, poured some tomato sauce, fresh basil and fresh grape tomatoes on top with a little grated parmesan cheese.  I didn't hate it.  I didn't love it.  I think it would be an acceptable substitute for me for pasta if I had it for lunch, and it definitely filled me up.  I was not hungry at all after.

They're kind of rubbery, not the same consistency as pasta and don't really have much of a taste.

So I'm going to buy them again thi week when I get to Wegman's (my new favorite store).  Anybody out there have any suggestions on recipes that I can use to perk them up a bit?

As for today, my plans are simple, work, work, work, work, eat lunch, work, work, work, work, eat, skate.  I really want to run, but trying to take it easy.  Those charlie horse cramps in my foot/leg the other night really left me with sore muscles yesterday.  I'm trying some new stretching and since I'm skating today, I'll wait until tomorrow to try out a run again.

  1. No help here. I've been avoiding them after hearing all the descriptions of those that have tried them. Something about rubbery and slimy...yeah, not a fan! But, I have seen recommendations to rinse the bejesus out of them and it helps with the slimy. :)

  2. Thanks, Marisa. They were definitely rubbery, but hey, I've got to try new things. :)

  3. Skating is FUN, but it's been soooo many years for me. As for those noodles, I think its great to try new things. Even if it turns out nasty, I never regret trying something new. :)

  4. Hungry Girl has recipes for using them, but so far I have not found a way to make them less rubbery tasting!
    Good luck...
