2012 - No Resolutions/More Goals

So as I sit here on New Years Day, enjoying every minute of this gorgeous sunny Florida day, I realized it's time to get it done, THE LIST, the 2012 "goals" list.  I don't know about everyone else, but I know for me, making resolutions doesn't work.  What works for me is to set goals.  I set a bunch of goals for 2011, but unfortunately, I only met a few of them, but they were biggies, one of which was running my first half-marathon.  I don't have "the 2011 list" with me on vacation, but when I get home, I'll be posting more about my "2012 list", which will include those goals from 2011 that I did not reach as well as the following.  I have run a few 5K's in 2011 and, of course, the half-marathon.  In 2012, one of my goals will be to complete at least 10 events.  I'd actually like to shoot for 12 to represent 2012.   One of those events is my big goal, to run A FULL MARATHON.  There, I said it!  I want to run a full marathon!!!!!  There are other non-running goals as well.  More to come in a later post.

I also set a goal for myself for this vacation in Florida while visiting my Mom.  Last year, my goal was to run "the bridge".  For those that aren't familiar, here is a link to that post.

But there is more than one bridge.  There are two, each visible from the other.  So this time, my goal was to run both bridges, one to the other and then return.  I set New Year's Day as the day to get it done.  And I did it!  Here are a few pics I took along the way.

At the top of the first bridge looking out at the second bridge in the distance.

Just after turning off the first bridge, heading down to the next.
Second bridge is right around the bend.

Here I go, on bridge number 2!

All done the bridges and heading to the beach.
Gorgeous day for that run.  Another goal met.  Now what?  Time to relax.

The rest of the day has been all about resting, enjoying this beautiful day with my mom, and cooking.  Mom is roasting a leg of lamb for us for dinner with roasted potatoes, carrots and onion, swiss chard, and I've got stuffed artichokes cooking on the stove now.  I can't wait for dinner!

I'd like to get another short run in tomorrow morning if I can.  Then we're planning on heading to the orange grove to pick up fruit, and go out somewhere really nice for lunch.  I've not made all the best choices during the holiday, but on those days when the choices weren't the greatest, we either skipped another meal, had something light, or it was a running day for me.

Saturday I'll return to my meeting and see what the number is on the scale.  Good or bad, doesn't make a difference.  I know how to deal with it if the number goes up and I know what to do to bring right back down.

So for now, I'm out of here for a few more days.  HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.  I am very excited for 2012!  Are you?

  1. Happy New Year to you, Reen, and congratulations on your run! :-)

I set intentions, rather than resolutions, this year - the first time in many years I've done anything remotely similar to making resolutions. I feel as though my intentions are more plan-and-initiate oriented.

I've tagged you! If you wish to participate, just follow this link: http://www.flab-to-fab.com/2012/01/ive-been-tagged.html
