It's such a beautiful morning again, perfect morning to get out for a short run before sitting at this computer working all day. What a great idea. Not. I'm trying to be the smart one here. My heart is telling me to run, but my head is saying no, there is a little soreness in the foot, keep resting it. Don't make it worse. It will take time to heal.
In the meantime, I've been trying to focus on other ways to move a little. Need to move. Sitting in this computer chair all day is really rough. My back and legs are so stiff. So I've been trying to get out in the garden at night. Accomplishes two things, gives me the opportunity to move and stretch AND I'm getting the garden cleaned up at the same time!
The vegetable garden is all tilled and ready. In fact, just waiting for the tomato and cucumber plants. Swiss chard and green beans are already planted, lima beans go in this weekend along with the tomato and cucumber plants. Actually, two tomato plants already in, courtesy of my a gift from my wonderful neighbor. We made the veggie garden "a little" bigger this year too. CAN YOU TELL I LOVE THE GARDEN THIS TIME OF YEAR? That will be another post.
After gardening for an hour and a half last night, we decided to treat ourselves and go for ice cream. Problem was I didn't want the regular fat-free sugar-free. I wanted good old ice cream. I got it. I enjoyed it. I tracked it. Now to make sure I get some activity in today. Maybe skating, maybe more gardening. As long as I move every day, I'll be okay on the days I can't run.

OOOH Swiss chard I have had that since I was a kid! Sometimes you just have to have the real thing! great attitude!
ReplyDeletegood for you, for resting! You don't have to like it but you really should listen to that body!
ReplyDeleteyour garden sounds lovely! we planted 7 different types of tomato and 3 different peppers. Cucumbers and herbs are going in this weekend. We expanded our garden a lot this year!
I can't wait to see your garden!!
Kathleeen, swiss chard is one of my FAVORITE veggies. We eat it all year round. It's best fresh picked from the garden and so easy to grow! I can't believe how much they charge at the produce places for it during the cold months!
ReplyDeleteYep, Jen, I'm resting it. Feeling a bit better now. Not sure what to relate that to. Before lunch, I got that big exercise ball out again and did a 30-minute workout, which is what I did a little over a week again when the pain suddenly disappeared. Could it be that the stretching with the big ball helps? Hmmm.
I'm going to work on putting together a post all about my garden. Soon, baby! Soon.
Amanda, Hi! That's the great thing about gardening. Doesn't take much to start. And for me, I'd rather grow as much as I can on my own. Have contemplated replacing flower beds with more veggie gardens.
I know how hard it is to rest when you want to run - but good for you finding other ways to keep active while you do the smart thing and let your foot heal. And here's a question for you: I've never had Swiss Chard before - is it on the mild side or the bitter side?
ReplyDeleteI took Monday AND Tuesday off from running because I wasn't feeling 100%. I think you're a smart cookie for staying put!!!
ReplyDeleteWoobie, Swiss chard is not bitter. Love it with a little olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper
ReplyDeleteOh, and gonna be honest guys. Yes, taking a break from running but did put the skates on tonight and skated for 2 hours. Just wanted to get moving. Strange thing is that didn't bother my foot at all!
ReplyDeleteYour garden sounds amazing! I wish I had one but I don't have a yard so I make do with a few tomato plants on my porch ;)
