Well, the word is give it a rest for a few ays, ice, anti-inflammatories, maybe change my training program a bit and GET NEW SHOES. Doctor isn't even sending me to foot doctor yet. It's either plantar fascitis or metatarsialgia (I know I probably spelled them both wrong).
So I stopped into a local running store today just for information and advice. The guy was very very helpful. He said, one, come back in a few days or a week after I've rested and it starts to feel better. They'll give me an evaluation at that point. He said to bring my current running shoes, that it may not even be necessary to get new shoes. I guess he's thinking maybe just an orthotic or something. I think I'm getting new running shoes. These have almost a year's worth of running on them, but we'll see. Either way, I feel so much better getting evaluated at "a real running store" instead of a sporting goods department. Will need to get something with more cushion and probably a little bigger size as well.
It was so nice to talk to people in the store that actually run. I told the guy my goal is to run the half-marathon in Atlantic City in October. (or sooner). He showed me his trophy that he got there running the marathon a few years ago, and he told me it will all work out and to not get discouraged. What a nice guy.
And I won't get discouraged. I know where I'm heading. :)
Hubby and I also went out for breakfast this morning I had such a big breakfast that we skipped lunch. This afternoon I made a smoothie and we split it. Dinner is a toss up, either fish or chicken...chicken or fish. Think it's going to be fish, baked scrod, baked sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli, and a salad.

You definitely need new shoes if you've had them that long. I think the general rule of thumb is every 300-400 miles you need a new pair. I need to suck it up and go for a fitting, too! My shins have been bothering me and I'm pretty sure it's the shoes :( Ka-ching, ka-ching!
ReplyDeleteWow, so even when I was only doing 10 miles a week, I was in need of new shoes a while ago, huh! Oops.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's going to cost a few $$$, but beats the cost of not getting them physically. :)
