First things first, I ran this morning. It was only my second run in two weeks. Earlier in the week, I went for a 30 minute run just to "get back on my feet." Friday was my scheduled long run, but the weather was lousy. So I opted to put it off until today when I knew the weather was going to be nicer. So glad I did.
I ran .... 8 miles! Wow, I ran 8 miles. Now, it wasn't very fast, but hey, I haven't really run much lately. I mapped out my route ahead of time, and what I actually did was map out a 4 mile route that ended back at my house. That way, if I wasn't feeling strong enough, I could stop there. But I was okay. I did intervals for the first 4 miles at 6/1 (six minute run, 1 minute walk). So after my short break for water and other necessities (hee hee), I was back out for the next 4 miles. This time, I did intervals of 4/2. It felt good, and I actually think I could have done more.... but I know better than that. Why push it? I've got plenty of time. So now I'll do the 8 for my long run through the month of April and bump it up again in May. FELT AWESOME!
Yesterday, I spent the day with my brother making homemade italian sausage. It was fun and we made a bunch of sausage! This sausage was the real deal, made with pork butt, but my plan is next time around, I'm going to venture into making different kinds of turkey sausage. We're also planning on making homemade kielbasi and then cooking it in the smoker. Here's a few pics for your enjoyment.

Lots of fun, and I really enjoyed spending time with my brother. Definitely need more family time.
So tonight I'm cooking a chicken on my Showtime rotisserie and we're having baked sweet potato and sauteed swiss chard. What's everyone else having for Sunday Dinner?
Oh, yeah, and I went to my meeting and weigh-in yesterday. Up a pound, but that doesn't surprise me. It's been an off week for me. We all have them, right?

That looks like a fun project! I would love to try and make my own sausage, especially after seeing some of the interesting ones they sell at the store - like chicken with spinach and garlic! Yum!
ReplyDeleteYay for 8 miles, Reen!!!!! Such a wonderful accomplishment! How did you like the intervals? Don't you feel less wiped out at the end of your run? For me, it gives my muscles that recovery time, so I'm not completely spent at the end!
ReplyDeleteYUMMMMO to that sausage! What a great time. You know, we have never made homemade sausage! I think you may offically be more Italian than me now! LOL!
YEAH 8 miles!!! How great!! I have never made sausage before, how interesting! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteOoh, chicken with spinach and garlic. That sounds like a wonderful combo for sausage!
ReplyDeleteMarisa, you gave me my first laugh of the morning. More Italian than you!!! :) Yes, the intervals are definitely definitely helping me with running. I didn't intervals at all before, but since coming back after finding out about the herniation in my back, it has helped. Honestly, I was pretty sore when I was done, but took a cool (not ice) bath after, a few Motrin, and by last night, not bad at all. Back is achey this morning though.
The varieties/combos of sausage are endless. It's definitely something I'd like to do again and will be trying out with turkey sausage soon.
